ARS LONGA VITA BREVIS

I almost left the visual art scene.

Almost.

During 1998-2008 I made fairly large-scale installation art. Size mattered. It was a period of crazed creativity. I studied ceramics at the University of Art and Design Helsinki. I taught ceramics classes in the evenings. I made art both at the university and at my studio. I practically lived at my studio. It was an intense time of learning. In 2008 I started a research for a doctoral degree at the University of Art and Design. All seemed well. But it was not. By 2010 I finally realized I suffered from severe burn out. Life wanted me to stop. And to learn some more.

My children were born in 2011 and 2013. Life offered me the experience of unconditional love in motherhood. I felt pure happiness for the first time in adult life. I did not do much visual art. I started to write. For the moment, in 2025, I am preparing my research for a doctoral degree in Contemporary Ceramic Art with a fresh approach. Slowly, I am getting hold of the visual art scene again, this time with small-scale installation art. Size matters.

ARS LONGA VITA BREVIS

The wise words in Latin in front of me in the auditorium at the University of Art and Design stayed with me. Every time I sat in the auditorium listening to a lecture I pondered about the many meanings of the phrase.
